The Books Are Here!

Hi and Merry Meet,
A few days ago I ordered some new books from half.com. I have ordered books from there before and I've never had a problem until this order.

I received one package of books yesterday. I got Buckland' Complete Book of Witchcraft, Tarot Spells, and then one that I didn't order but got was Blood Orange. Hummm, that doesn't look like The Truth About Witchcraft Today. So, I sent the company a nice note letting them know that there was a small mix-up with my order. I haven't heard from them yet, but I'm sure all will get worked out in the end. :)

Tarot Spells is one that the girls in my tarot class talked about a bit. I thought I would get it and see what all the fuss was over since the next class session is in November. I love used books. This one is very used and very well read.... however, there is a funky energy about it. I found the name of one of the past owners as well as some of the spells that he wanted to try out. I think I need to clean off the old energy and start fresh with this one. Here is the old school cover of it:I glanced though the Buckland book this morning. The one thing that I love about all the different witchcraft books is the different points of view! I love that!! Each author's voice is very distinct and clear. I'm looking forward to really diving into this one to see how he approaches the Craft.

Hope you enjoy the long weekend!
Blessed be,
Autumn

New Reading

Hi and Merry Meet,
A few days I started reading the book Tarot For The Green Witch by Ann Moura. I really like her writing style and I find it easy to follow.

Tarot is something that I enjoy a lot. Before I did my dedication ceremony, I took tarot classes with a friend of mine. I took them with her so that she would have someone to go with. I never expected to fall in love with it. My first deck was the Gilded Tarot. I love the images of this deck. The class really opened my eyes about tarot. There is a beauty and a connection to it that I think is misunderstood by many people. After taking the beginner class, I had to take the intermediate. It was an amazing class and such a sharing of ideas. We had a professional reader as the instructor, but all of us added our thoughts and ideas. I loved how close knit our class became. I learned as much from my classmates and I did from our instructor! She was the one who recommended the Tarot For The Green Witch book.

This book expands on what I know about tarot and is showing me how to incorporated in my craft practice. She uses several different decks to explain the meanings that she uses for readings. I currently have three decks and would love to expand my collection, however, being unemployed at the moment, expanding is not going to happen right now.

I've only read a few pages so far, but I find her take on tarot very interesting. She shows how the cards really relate to the green witch and how they are not only part of the craft, but how the energies are all around us all the time. She also shows how the major arcana are in pairs and how the energies are interrelated.

Tomorrow I hope to be able to get outside and spend some time in my garden! I haven't been able to do that in a while. Hopefully, the weather will hold!
Blessed be,
Autumn

History Lessons

Hi and Merry Meet,
I love to read and I love to learn. I also love books! However, I find that buying them brand new from Barnes and Noble is way to expensive for me. Luckily, my husband turned me on to half.com. I love it! I can now buy many books for what it would cost me to buy one from Barnes and Noble! The site is owned by ebay, but the books are sold by individuals and they are rated things like "new, like new, good" and so forth.

Last week I ordered the Green Witchcraft series by Ann Moura. I hear about this author from two different people. One was in my tarot class, talking about her book Tarot For The Green Witch. The other was a shop keeper who thought that her Green Witchcraft books would really appeal to me. I ordered all the Green Witch books and her Tarot book too. It cost me a fraction of what I would have spent if I went out and got them new. All the books are new, that is the best part!!

Anyway, I started to read the first Green Witchcraft book last night. I am still reading To Stir by Silver RavenWolf, and Wicca by Scott Cunningham! I have too many books going at one time! However, I like all three authors and their writing styles are so different. Ann Moura gets into history a bit more and the things that she is talking about I find are very interesting. Since she has several degrees in history you can tell it is her passion the way that she writes. So far the book has been a history lesson on traditions and religion in general.

This book right now does not have little practices like Silver's books do, but I love her style of writing and I find it very easy to read.

Here are my "used" books:

Where Did I Start?

Hi and Merry Meet,
The first place I started my search for Wicca was my local library! They have books on Wicca and you can check them out for free (I'm a huge fan of free!). I found this book by Ellen Dugan there:
I liked it so much that I ordered my own copy from Half. Even though this book is written for teens, and I'm not in that category anymore, I found that it was written in such a easy and straight forward way that I could easily understand the ideas presented. This book just felt so right to me. It felt like she knew what I needed to know about nature and how it all connects to the Goddess. I loved it.

I also hit up Barnes and Noble for The Complete Idiot's Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft by Denise Zimmermann and Katherine A. Gleason. This was another great book that helped me a lot to take the first steps on this path. They offer so much info on many different aspects of the Craft. Again, it is presented in a simple way that explains without making you feel stupid for not knowing.

The next place that I looked for information was at my local metaphysical stores. I'm blessed that we have more than one where I live so I was able to see a few different prospectives! Check out WitchVox to see stores around the States. :)

The last place I looked was the internet. I know that most people would look there first, but as I love print, the library will always be my second home! I found a lot of info, almost to the point of overwhelming me and bamboozling me with ideas. However, I found that youtube has some helpful videos and if you go over that way, check out TipToeChick. She really helped me get a grasp on all the info that I was starting to learn.

I have bought more books off Half and I will be posting about them as I get to read them. I have finished the Elements and Idiot's book and would recommend them as a first step.
Blessed be,
Autumn
